Great technique for taming or desensitizing your Savana Monitor.  Although this is not positive reinforcement,  it is very affective.

Can Lizards be trained?

Yes, They can be trained.  Iguanas, Bearded Dragons, Monitors, Tegus, Anoles and many other types have already been trained to be less aggressive, targeting, respond to names, potty training, etc.  Training lizards can be fun, rewarding and healthy for your lizard.  The basic principle is reinforcing your lizard when a desire behavior occurs.  Example; if you want your lizard to be less aggressive  then wait for him to be in a relaxed position and reinforce it.  The reinforcement can be food.  Timing is really important.  If you give the reinforcement when it is moving you could continue reinforcing the wrong behavior.  For more specific problem solving contact us.
